Background and Objectives: Cancer requires significant informal caregiving, which is often overwhelming for caregivers of cancer patients. While caregiving negatively impacts these caregivers, spirituality plays a prominent role in coping with the challenges of caregiving. The present study aimed to determine the status of spiritual well-being among caregivers of cancer patients.
Materials and methods: This descriptive study was conducted among 100 caregivers of cancer patients in Kermanshah. Participants were selected through convenience sampling from caregivers of cancer patients referred to the Cancer Patients Support Association. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire by Palutzian and Ellison and analyzed in SPSS version 16.
Findings: 87.1% of participants had moderate spiritual health and 12.9% had high spiritual health. Spiritual health had a positive and significant correlation with caregivers' age (r=0.231, P=0.026) and a negative and significant correlation with patients' age (r=-0.205, P=0.049) and duration of cancer diagnosis (r=-0.217, P=0.037).
Conclusion: There is a need to develop and implement interventions to promote spiritual health for caregivers of cancer patients, especially for caregivers of patients who have been diagnosed for a longer period of time.
